Tobago Carnival, Easter and Christmas: Your Villa Planning Guide
By Tobago.Villas Team · · 5 min read

Quick answer: Tobago Carnival (held in October; 2026 runs 30 October to 1 November), the Easter weekend with the Buccoo Goat and Crab Race Festival on Easter Tuesday, and the Christmas holidays are among Tobago's busiest times for villa stays. Book your villa as soon as your dates and headcount are firm, then book flights or ferry tickets straight away. Our villas sleep from 6 guests (Beach Collection) up to 26 (The Casa Villa and The Fairway Villa).
Peak dates are when groups travel: friends going to Carnival together, families heading over for Easter, and everybody coming home for Christmas. Here's how to plan each one.
Peak seasons at a glance
| Season | When | What's on | Planning tip |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tobago Carnival | October (2026: Fri 30 Oct to Sun 1 Nov) | Mas, J'ouvert, mud mas, soca, steelpan, fetes; 2026 theme "The Awakening" | Book early; confirm event dates with official organisers |
| Trinidad Carnival | Pre-Lenten Carnival Monday and Tuesday (2027: 8–9 Feb) | Trinidad's national Carnival | Some people plan a Tobago stay for a calmer break or a post-Carnival rest |
| Easter | Good Friday to Easter Tuesday | Easter Monday goat races in Mt Pleasant; Buccoo Goat and Crab Race Festival on Easter Tuesday | Good Friday and Easter Monday are public holidays, so demand is high |
| Christmas | Christmas Day and Boxing Day (public holidays) and the weeks around them | Family time, home-coming visits | Large villas are popular for multi-family stays |
| Tobago Heritage Festival | Mid-July to 1 August (2026: 16 July to 1 August) | Culture and heritage events, ending with an Emancipation Day parade | Pairs well with the Emancipation Day holiday |
Event dates change every year. Always check the official Tobago Festivals Commission or visittobago.gov.tt listings before you lock in travel.
Tobago Carnival (October)
Tobago now has its own Carnival in October, separate from Trinidad's pre-Lenten Carnival. Tobago Carnival 2026 runs from Friday 30 October to Sunday 1 November, marking its fifth year, under the theme "The Awakening". Expect mas, J'ouvert, mud mas, soca, calypso and steelpan, with activity around Scarborough, Crown Point, Pigeon Point and other venues. The THA Tobago Panorama (Pan Omega) is listed for Saturday 24 October 2026, and a Steelpan and Powder Parade for Saturday 31 October.
Villa tips for Carnival:
- Groups of friends: The Casa Villa and The Fairway Villa each include 18 guests in the base rate and sleep up to 26. Note that parties at the villa need approval, and amplified music at The Casa must end by 10:00 PM. These are places to rest between fetes, not fete venues.
- Couples and small crews: the Beach Collection villas sleep 6 each and sit side by side, so a group can take two or three and still be together.
- Plan your transport. Fetes and events are spread around the island. Arrange a car or transfers in advance.
- Declare everyone staying. Overnight headcounts and day visitors must be agreed in advance at our larger villas.
Easter in Tobago
Easter is one of Tobago's most traditional times. Good Friday and Easter Monday are public holidays across Trinidad and Tobago, which makes it a long weekend many Trinis spend in Tobago.
What's on: In 2026, Mt Pleasant held Easter Monday goat races and the Buccoo Goat and Crab Race Festival took place on Easter Tuesday. It's a long-standing tradition (2026 was the 98th edition) with racing, music and local food. If you're staying through to Tuesday, it's worth making a day of it in Buccoo.
Where to stay for Easter:
- The Nest Villa (5 bedrooms, sleeps 16) is near Buccoo beach, with a garden and swing set for the kids.
- The Heart Villa (5 bedrooms, sleeps 15) has a large gazebo with outdoor TV, BBQ, outdoor kitchen and fire pit, good for a big Easter cook-up.
- Both are in Samaan Grove, Canaan, a gated community with 24/7 security.
Easter 2027: Good Friday is 26 March and Easter Monday is 29 March, so Easter Tuesday falls on 30 March. Check official listings for 2027 festival details once announced.
Christmas in Tobago
Christmas is about family, and that's where villas shine. Instead of several hotel rooms, everyone shares one house, one kitchen and one table.
Where to stay for Christmas:
- The Casa Villa (7 bedrooms, sleeps 26): a chef's kitchen, indoor dining for everyone under one roof, outdoor dining for large groups, and a theatre room for the kids on Christmas night.
- The Fairway Villa (6 bedrooms, sleeps 26): a dining room seating 18, a games room, a waterslide pool and a kids bunk room that sleeps 8.
- Smaller families can take a Beach Collection villa on Stonehaven Bay, each with a full kitchen and private pool.
Want help with the cooking? We can arrange a private chef Italian catered dinner at your villa (pricing on inquiry).
Matching villa to group size in peak season
| Group size | Best fit |
|---|---|
| 2–6 | One Beach Collection villa |
| 7–12 | Two side-by-side Beach Collection villas |
| 13–16 | The Heart Villa (up to 15) or The Nest Villa (up to 16) |
| 17–26 | The Casa Villa or The Fairway Villa; 18 included in the base rate |
| 27+ | Combine villas, such as several Beach Collection villas, or The Heart and The Nest in the same gated community |
Your peak-season booking checklist
- Lock in dates and headcount early. Peak-season villas are often the first to go.
- Book the villa first, then travel. Then book the Caribbean Airlines air bridge or the ferry right away.
- Check the currency. Every villa page shows rates in US$ and TT$; they're the same price. Extra-guest fees at The Fairway are US$50 per person per night (US dollars). Check live rates for your dates on the villa page, since peak dates can be priced differently.
- Tell us about events. Birthday dinners, parties and extra day guests need approval before booking.
- Pay a deposit to secure your dates. The balance is due before arrival; exact amounts are shown before you pay.
- Plan arrival around check-in. Check-in is from 3:00 PM and check-out is by 11:00 AM.
T&T residents can pay in TT$; see every villa priced in TT$ on our T&T residents page. For more on the island's year, read Tobago in Bloom: A Seasonal Guide.
