Mt Irvine: hilltop views and the island's surf beach
Mt Irvine is on Tobago's Caribbean coast, and it's the area to choose if you want a view. The Casa Villa sits high on the Sugar Hill ridge, with a wraparound sunset porch over an infinity pool and the open Caribbean beyond.
Why stay here:
- Mt Irvine Beach is about five minutes down the hill. It's known for surfing and is one of Tobago's most beautiful bays. If you want to try, we arrange a Learn to Surf session at Mt Irvine Bay.
- Stonehaven Bay and the Mt Irvine Bay Hotel & Golf Course are also close by.
- Pigeon Point, Buccoo Reef and the Nylon Pool are a short drive.
- Up at the villa it's quiet and private, while restaurants, supermarkets and beach bars are within easy reach.
Consider: being on a hilltop means you'll drive down to the beach. For a big group that's usually a fair trade for the privacy and the sunsets.
Canaan: gated, family-friendly and central to the southwest beaches
Our two Canaan villas are in Samaan Grove, a gated community with 24/7 security. It's a calm, residential setting, which is exactly what many families want after a day at the beach.
- The Heart Villa has a heart-shaped pool, a large gazebo with an outdoor TV and BBQ, an outdoor kitchen and fire pit, and en-suite bathrooms in every bedroom. It lists a crib and a dishwasher.
- The Nest Villa has a pool in a large garden, a swing set for children and a BBQ and patio area, and is described as kid-friendly.
Why stay here: The Nest is near No Man's Land, Mount Irvine, Pigeon Point and Buccoo beaches, which puts most beach days, the Buccoo horseback riding experience and Buccoo Reef snorkelling within easy reach.
Consider: this is a residential community rather than a beachfront, so plan on a short drive to the sand.
Lowlands: golf-course living near the airport
The Fairway Villa sits directly on the Tobago Plantations championship golf course in Lowlands, inside a gated estate with 24/7 security. The estate is a short drive from ANR Robinson International Airport and close to Scarborough, which makes arrival day easy.
Why stay here:
- Fairway views from the covered porch and gazebo.
- Built for families: a private pool with a waterslide, a jacuzzi, a games room with pool table and foosball, and a kids bunk room that sleeps 8.
